Established in 2003, the museum is home to one of the most extensive collections of firefighting artifacts illustrating the history of New England firefighting from colonial days to present time.
Since the day the museum was born, our team of board members and volunteers have worked to build the museum into what it is today, but now it's time to take it to the next level.
There are lots of exciting plans in the works, all of which need funding!
Recently we added a Children's Corner that includes a 12-foot wooden fire truck children can play in, fire hoses and reels, children's firefighting gear, and a fire safety smoke tunnel. We would like to add a play ambulance, a fire pole with thick mats, and interactive exhibits. We are creating a fire prevention and safety curriculum to bring into third-grade classrooms, and enhancing the tours for when classrooms visit the museum.
For adults and families, we are creating a timeline display of firefighting uniforms and apparatus from colonial times to present day.
We would like to add a ramp to make our museum handicapped accessible.
Would like to develop a firefighting history trolley tour within our city, and extend our hours.
All this is going to cost more than our annual chili cook-off, yard sales, membership drives, guided tours, field trips, gift shop and admissions revenue can raise... So we are looking for help from businesses or individuals.
